You do not have to own the car you drive while shopping with Shipt. However, you do have to be insured on the policy that covers that car. If you are not an insured driver on the policy for a car, you cannot use that car while working with Shipt.
We keep a close eye on our markets as our needs are constantly evolving. If there are no openings available when you sign up, we will contact you as soon as an opening becomes available in your area.
Once you complete your sign-up, you can expect an email from our Onboarding Team as soon as an opening becomes available!
We evaluate the performance of every market on a weekly basis and, as soon as there is availability in your area, we will let you know how to complete your sign-up.
The amount of time it will take to get started varies by location. It could be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks (or sometimes, a bit longer than that). Rest assured that our onboarding team is working very hard to get everyone started as soon as possible!
At this time, we onboard shoppers on an as-needed basis which means there may sometimes be a waiting period if all delivery needs in a location are currently being met.
If there is a waiting period, we’ll contact you with more information on how to complete your sign-up!
We will communicate with you through email and you’ll receive instructions directly in your app once you start the sign up process.
We are sorry about that! If you are unable to complete the sign-up process, you first need to double check that every required field has been filled out.
If you are certain every field has been filled out, then one of two issues may be occurring.
1) Phone Number - This field accepts only numeric values and will not accept any dashes, dots, or slashes. Please check to make sure you are entering your phone number in the following format: ##########
2) State - This field must be submitted as the state abbreviation. You can find this in the drop-down menu, or you may type it in yourself. Please check to make sure your state is abbreviated.
If you have checked all of these fields and are still unable to sign up, please reach out to us at onboarding@shipt.com so we can help troubleshoot!
To allow for equal opportunity for all potential shoppers, we unfortunately cannot change the area where you initially signed up. However, once you complete your sign-up and are authorized to shop or drive on the Shipt platform, you can update your location in the app.
There is no need to sign up a second time if you’d like to shop or drive in multiple areas. After you complete your sign-up and are authorized, you’ll be able to update your location in the app.
Please note if you have an active account, pending sign-up, or your sign-up was previously denied, additional sign-ups won’t be accepted.

We obtain a motor vehicle report and criminal background check, including key registries for our independent contractors, in compliance with state and federal laws. This comprehensive background check is performed through a national third-party vendor called Checkr, and includes searches of multiple federal databases.
Not at all! This just means there’s nothing more for you to do and your sign-up is in review. Check your email for instructions on next steps.
If you're more interested in cruising down the road than down a shopping aisle, driving with Shipt may be for you. Each day you drive, your first stop will be a designated Target pick-up location, which organizes and processes the packages you'll deliver.
